Throughout our lifetime, we as human beings will inevitably find ourselves in situations that feel stagnant and stuck. Annoyingly, these stages can sneak up on us and we don’t really notice it until we realize that we are unhappy, unmotivated, and overwhelmed. As a result, we cannot always determine what adjustments are necessary to create a positive change!

The Steps — Creating a Positive Change

Determine the Areas that Need Change

If you feel as though you’re stuck in this situation, then the first thing to do is to evaluate each area of your life (listed below) by giving each area a score from 1-10 (10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest).

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Health
  • Career
  • Finances
  • Physical location
  • Hobbies
  • Love life

Doing this assessment will provide a visual and mathematical “score” which will help you determine what needs to change in that area so it could become a 10!

Choosing a Direction

Once you determine what areas need a positive change, it’s time to do your research and identify what you would like that particular area to look like. For example, if you are running a physician\’s office and the area you hope to improve is your career, then the next step is to research various physician offices that you like and identify why you like them!

Note that: This does NOT mean you need to copy them. It’s just inspiration!

If “finance” is the area you hope to improve, then it might be time to learn some helpful financial tips! One of our favorite books is Baby Steps Millionaires by Dave Ramsey and can definitely provide some insight that can drastically overhaul your finances!

Do know that there may be many areas that you would like to improve. Start with one of the “easier” ones as once you’ve had success, then you’ll get some wind in your sails!

Determine Actionable Steps

Once you know what needs to change and have an idea as to where you hope to “go”, then it’s time to identify what steps you need to take in order to accomplish the positive change. This is where speaking to an expert such as a business coach, therapist, financial planner, marriage counselor, etc. is really helpful.

Surround Yourself with What You Want

Surround yourself with people that have what you want! Doing so will create a support system that can increase your motivation and offer some advice. This is such a crucial step because determination is very important! Why? Well think about it, surrounding yourself with people who have not accomplished their goals usually means that they gave up — and that will stall all motivation.

Conclusion

If your life is in a stalemate, take solace in knowing that you’re not alone and that the steps above can have a massive impact! To recap, do the following:

  1. Determine the areas in your life you want to change
  2. Identify the ways in which it can change
  3. Pinpoint the actionable steps necessary to move in the new direction
  4. Surround yourself with people that have what you want
